Haberfield/Ashfield Option A

Option A would utilise Wattle Street civil and tunnel site, Haberfield civil and tunnel site and Northcote Street civil site

Wattle Street civil and tunnel site

  • The Wattle Street civil and tunnel site would be located above and below ground along Wattle Street in Haberfield, between Parramatta Road and Ramsay Street, on land that is currently being used for constructing the New M4.
  • The site would support key construction activities such as site establishment and utility works, road works and traffic management, tunnelling, civil and mechanical fitout, and landscaping.
  • No permanent facilities would be constructed at this site.
  • Roadheaders would be launched underground from this site to excavate the tunnels that would connect the Wattle Street interchange entry and exit ramps with the M4-M5 Link mainline tunnels.

Access routes

  • Light vehicles would enter and exit the site to and from the eastbound Wattle Street carriageway. Heavy vehicles would enter the site via the eastbound entry ramp, be loaded with excavated material within the tunnels, and then exit the site to Wattle Street via the westbound exit ramp.
  • It is anticipated that 133 heavy vehicles and 50 light vehicles would enter and exit the site each day.

Further details on proposed construction activities at the Wattle Street civil and tunnel site, including the proposed schedule of works, are outlined in Chapter 6, Section 6.5.2 of the EIS.

Haberfield civil and tunnel site

  • The Haberfield civil and tunnel site would be located above and below ground near the south-eastern corner of the Parramatta Road and Wattle Street intersection, extending along Parramatta Road between Wattle Street and Walker Avenue at Haberfield.
  • Other key construction activities would include site establishment and utility work; road works and traffic management; tunnelling; civil and mechanical fitout; and landscaping.
  • Roadheaders would be launched from this site to excavate the mainline tunnels. Surface works would include construction of a substation and fitout of the Parramatta Road ventilation facility (that will be built as part of the New M4 project).

Access routes

  • Light vehicles would enter and exit the site to and from the eastbound Wattle Street carriageway. Heavy vehicles would enter the site via the westbound Wattle Street carriageway, be loaded with excavated material within the tunnels, and then exit the site to Wattle Street via the westbound exit ramp.
  • It is anticipated that 136 heavy vehicles and 90 light vehicles would enter and exit the site each day.

Further details on proposed construction activities at the Haberfield civil and tunnel site are outlined in Chapter 6, Section 6.5.3 of the EIS.

Northcote Street civil site

  • The Northcote Street civil site at Haberfield would be located between Wattle Street and Wolseley Street, on land that currently houses a construction support facility for the New M4 project.
  • The site would be used for construction workforce parking and to support construction activities at the nearby civil and tunnel sites. Around 150 car parking spaces would be established on this site.
  • Construction activities would include site establishment and utility works, car park and laydown area construction, and landscaping.
  • No permanent facilities would be constructed at this site.

Access routes

  • Heavy vehicles would enter and exit the site to and from Parramatta Road. Light vehicles would enter the site via Wolseley Street and depart onto Wattle Street.
  • It is anticipated that 100 heavy vehicles and 150 light vehicles would enter and exit the site each day.

Further details on proposed construction activities at the Northcote Street civil and tunnel site are outlined in Chapter 6, Section 6.5.4 of the EIS.
