Applications open for community grants

Community groups and organisations are being encouraged to apply for the next round of Sydney Motorway Corporation’s (SMC) Community Grant Scheme which supports local initiatives within the WestConnex corridor.
SMC Chief Executive Officer Dennis Cliche said the scheme, which provides grants up to $10,000 had been embraced by local communities.
"As we build WestConnex, the Community Grant Scheme is one of a series of initiatives being delivered through our Community Connections Program, which aims to deliver lasting positive outcomes for communities in Western Sydney and along the project corridor,” Mr Cliche said.
“We’re proud to have already awarded 160 grants to a wide range of very worthy groups and organisations who are delivering a range of important initiatives that are making a real difference in the community that have directly benefited more than 10,000 people.”
Sue McGregor from grant recipient Sunnyfield Lilyfield Community Hub said the organisation had purchased a new electronic smartboard and kitchen equipment thanks to an SMC grant.
“Sunnyfield DisAbility Services is an organisation which has been enriching the lives of people with disability for over 65 years. For the first time our clients will have access to electronic equipment and resources that will build independence and support life-long learning for people with disability in the local area,” Ms McGregor said.
“The SMC Community Grant has had a huge impact at the Community Services Hub in Lilyfield. We’ve enhanced programs through the purchase of new kitchen equipment which has resulted in regular daily cooking and gardening programs to improve daily living skills, and we’ve also been able to extend the range of support we offer clients who communicate non-verbally to further develop digital literacy skills.
Mr Cliche encouraged local not-for-profit groups such as schools, sporting clubs and social enterprises with a strong community focus to get their application in early for a grant up to $10,000.
“The feedback received from the groups we've assisted through the scheme has been overwhelmingly positive; the application process is simple and can be completed online,” Mr Cliche said.
“We’re looking forward to connecting with and assisting more local organisations in their efforts to deliver positive outcomes for their community.”
Applications for Round 3 of the Community Grant scheme open on Monday 12 March and will be accepted until 5pm, Friday 13 April 2018. For more information on the Community Grants Scheme, eligibility criteria and to apply, visit www.sydneymotorway.com.au/grants.
