Applications open for the latest round of WestConnex community grants

Community groups and organisations are being encouraged to apply for the latest round of Sydney Motorway Corporation’s (SMC) Community Grant Scheme which supports local initiatives within the WestConnex corridor.

WestConnex Chief Executive Officer Andrew Head said the program, which provides grants up to $10,000, had been embraced by local communities.

"As we continue to build WestConnex, the Community Grant Scheme is one of a series of initiatives which aims to deliver lasting positive outcomes for communities along the project corridor,” Mr Head said.
“Already the community grant program has directly benefited more than 60,000 people and we’re looking forward to connecting with and assisting more local organisations.”

Kingsgrove North High School principal Angelo Stasos said students and teachers alike were benefiting from a new sheltered learning space following the construction of a new pergola which was funded through a community grant.

“There is a lack of sheltered areas at the school and we’re delighted to have this new space available ahead of summer, which is already being used for a range of activities including music and art lessons, as a break-out space for senior students and by local community groups on weekends,” Mr Stasos said.
“The upgrade has made a real difference to our whole school and the response from students in particular has been overwhelming – it’s given them an inviting new learning space that they now want to be part of.”

Mr Head encouraged local not-for-profit groups such as schools, sporting clubs and social enterprises with a strong community focus to get their application in early.

“To date, more than 180 community grants have been awarded to a variety of very worthy groups and organisations who are delivering a range of important initiatives which are making a difference in local communities,” Mr Head said.
“The online application process is easy and I’d encourage people to visit our website to find out more.”

Applications will be accepted until 3pm, Friday 2 November 2018. For more information on the Community Grants Scheme, eligibility criteria and to apply, visit
