Changed traffic conditions May Street St Peters
7 Nov 2017
Motorists are advised temporary weekend road closures will be in place on May Street, St Peters during November as work to progress the WestConnex New M5 local road upgrades continues.
New M5 Project Director Ken Reynolds said May Street northbound between Campbell Street and Council Street will be closed for up to three weekends between Friday 10 November and Monday 27 November to progress the upgrade and installation of drainage and utilities along Campbell Street and surrounding intersections as well as some tree clearing.
“To ensure the safety or workers, motorists and local road users May Street northbound between Campbell Street and Council Street will be temporarily closed to traffic between 7pm Friday and 5am Monday during the nominated weekends when traffic volumes in the area are lower,” Mr Reynolds said.
To facilitate the changed traffic conditions, a detour will be in place for motorists via Campbell Street.
Entry to May Street northbound will be closed to traffic coming from Unwins Bridge Road, Campbell Street and Bedwin Road, however access to May Street for local residents and businesses will be maintained with entry via the Princes Highway.
To enable site establishment, parking restrictions on May Street will apply from 7am Thursday 9 November and when the weekend work is being carried out.
Mr Reynolds said with work for the New M5 and local road upgrades ramping up, Sydney Motorway Corporation and its contractors are working hard to ensure local residents and businesses are informed of upcoming changing traffic conditions and access arrangements.
“In the lead-up to these changed conditions we will be doorknocking and notifying local residents to ensure they are aware of the changes ahead of time,” Mr Reynolds said.
“Every effort will be made to minimise noise while this work is carried out and residents are thanked for their patience while this essential work is being carried out.
“VMS signs to advise of the detour routes, traffic controllers, and reduced speed limits will also be in place to guide local road users through these changed conditions.
“Motorists should allow for more travel time in the local area while the changed traffic conditions are in place, follow the signs, and check www.livetraffic.com and transportnsw.info for the latest updates.”
Sydney Motorway Corporation is delivering upgraded and widened local roads around the St Peters Interchange in St Peters, Mascot and Alexandria, as part of the WestConnex New M5.
