Closure of Concord on-ramp to M4
15 Mar 2017
Motorists are advised the M4 Motorway westbound on-ramp from Concord Road will be permanently closed from March 17.
The closure of the on-ramp, near the intersection of Parramatta Road and Leicester Street is necessary to enable the construction of the Concord interchange for the M4 East project.
Project Director Terry Chapman said work is continuing 24-7 to deliver the project as quickly as possible.
“We thank road users for their patience while work continues to build a new on-ramp at Powells Creek which will provide access from Parramatta Road to the M4 motorway westbound later this year,” Mr Chapman said.
Transport for NSW Coordinator General Marg Prendergast says motorists should plan ahead.
“Motorists need to consider other ways to access the M4 Motorway, including from Homebush Bay Drive, Silverwater Road or the Parramatta Road junction at Concord,” Ms Prendergast said.
Motorists have the option to:
- Continue along Concord Road, then turn left onto Homebush Bay Drive and continue on the M4
- Turn left onto Parramatta Road and head west
- Turn right at Leicester Ave onto Parramatta Road and then left onto the M4
“People are reminded to allow extra travel time and check live traffic for the latest updates,” Ms Prendergast said.
“Electronic message signs will be in place to help guide motorists to their destinations.”
Work is now well underway on the M4 East twin tunnels from Homebush to Haberfield, which will connect to a new widened section of the M4 which opens to traffic later this year.
When the M4 East is complete in 2019, motorists will be able to travel from the Blue Mountains to inner western Sydney without stopping at a single traffic light.
Motorists can access the latest live traffic updates by downloading the Live Traffic App for iPhone, iPad and Android or call the Traffic Information Line on 132 701.
