M4 night closures continue
16 Mar 2016
Another round of night closures of the M4 Motorway is planned for this week as work continues to widen and increase capacity of the Motorway as part of WestConnex.
The M4 is scheduled to be closed overnight in both directions between Parramatta Road, Concord and Silverwater Road, Silverwater tomorrow (Wednesday 30 March) and on Thursday 31 March and Friday 1 April. The westbound closure will extend to Church Street Parramatta.
The closures are planned for 11pm until 5am, weather permitting, and they follow similar off-peak closures in recent weeks.
Traffic will be diverted onto Parramatta Road with all detours advised via Variable Message Signs and livetraffic.com
“We ask motorists to check livetraffic.com if they are planning to travel on these nights to ensure they have up to date information about the closures and detours,” said Project Director Terry Chapman.
“Closing both carriageways between Concord and Silverwater enables us to prepare the motorway corridor for construction of the M4 East tunnels which will extend towards Haberfield.
“The closures also allow us to switch traffic onto the new road pavement as part of the M4 Widening project, which enables work to progress on and adjacent to the existing road surface,” he said.
The upcoming motorway night closures will be followed by the planned closure of the motorway’s James Ruse Drive westbound off-ramp for a series of nights. These closures are required so a girder for the new overpass can be craned into place adjacent to the off-ramp.
Once finished, the widened and extended M4 will allow motorists to travel between Haberfield and the Blue Mountains without stopping at a single traffic light.
Motorists are encouraged to plan their journey, allow extra travel time and use alternative routes such as Parramatta and Victoria roads.
“We once again thank motorists for their patience and understanding while this work on WestConnex continues,” Mr Chapman said.
