Changed traffic conditions on Gardeners Road, Mascot
30 Jun 2017
Motorists are advised from Tuesday 4 July a number of changed traffic conditions will be in place on Gardeners Road between Kent Street and O'Riordan Street at Mascot as part of the New M5 project. New M5 Director Ken Reynolds said the changes were required to progress the upgrade and widening of Gardeners Road which will connect to the future St Peters Interchange and would remain in place until the completion of the project in early 2020. “From Tuesday, Gardeners Road eastbound will be reduced to one lane from Kent Street to O'Riordan Street,” Mr Reynolds said. “The right turning lane from Gardeners Road westbound onto Bourke Road will be removed while the upgrade work is carried out. “Motorists travelling west and wanting to access Bourke Road can turn right at O'Riordan Street and detour via Doody Street. “Motorists will still able to turn left onto Bourke Road travelling eastbound.” Access to all nearby businesses will be maintained. There will also be some changes to pedestrian access in the area, with the closure of the pedestrian path along the northern side of Gardeners Road between Bourke Road and O'Riordan Street. “Pedestrians will be encouraged to use the alternative path on Church Avenue. Local businesses have been consulted to advise their staff and customers of the alternative path and access,” Mr Reynolds said. Motorists should expect delays and allow for more travel time in the local area while the changed traffic conditions are in place, follow the signs, and check www.livetraffic.com and transportnsw.info for the latest updates. “We thank motorists, cyclists, bus users and pedestrians for their patience while this essential work is carried out,” Mr Reynolds said. Sydney Motorway Corporation is delivering upgraded and widened local roads around the St Peters Interchange in St Peters, Mascot and Alexandria, as part of the WestConnex New M5. Campbell Street, Campbell Road and Euston Road will be widened between Campbell Road and Maddox Street. Work to deliver these upgrades will be completed in 2020.
