New M4 start of tolling

11 Aug 2017

Motorists are advised changed traffic conditions start next week on the widened New M4 between Parramatta and Homebush. From 12.00am Tuesday 15 August, motorists will pay a distance-based toll collected electronically via tolling gantries installed at exit and entry ramps between Church Street, Parramatta and Homebush Bay Drive, Homebush. The move also coincides with an increase in the maximum speed limit to 90km/h, with a variable speed limit in place to help manage traffic flow. New M4 Project Director Terry Chapman said that motorists have been able to take advantage of the increase to four lanes in each direction while they adjusted to the new conditions. “We thank motorists for driving carefully while all road users adjusted to the new arrangements across the motorway, particularly at on and off ramps,” he said. “Motorists have been enjoying travel time benefits during the toll-free period and we are now moving to distance-based tolling. “If you'll be using the widened New M4 regularly, you should purchase an E-tag, if you don't have one already.” The M4 west of Parramatta will remain free, while a distance-based toll up to a maximum of $4.56 per trip will be payable from Tuesday 15 August between Parramatta and Homebush. Motorists are also advised work is continuing on the M4 east of Homebush Bay Drive. “We are working hard to deliver further travel time improvements on the M4 with work progressing well on the New M4 tunnels. A roadwork speed limit of 80km/h remains in place on the M4 between Homebush Bay Drive, Homebush and Parramatta Road, Concord,” Mr Chapman said. Electronic message signs are in place to alert motorists to the changed traffic conditions. Motorists can order an E-Toll tag or eMU Pass from preferred tag partner, Roads and Maritime Services.
