Euston Road and Sydney Park Road intersection upgrade now complete

20 Apr 2020

After more than two years, the Sydney Park Road, Euston Road and Huntley Street intersection upgrade at Alexandria is fully operational, marking the completion of a major local road upgrade being delivered as part of the WestConnex New M5 project.

New M5 Project Director Terry Chapman said the intersection improvements form part of an upgrade to Euston Road, which includes widening the corridor between Campbell Road and Maddox Street to improve connectivity around the St Peters Interchange.

“From Saturday 18 April, the final traffic arrangements at the Euston Road, Sydney Park Road and Huntley Street intersection will be in place,” Mr Chapman said.

“While there is still more construction work to be carried out for other local road upgrades, the completion of this intersection is a significant milestone that should help improve traffic flow and movements at this location, which has been undergoing a major transformation since 2017.”

The final traffic movements at the intersection are: No right turn permitted for southbound traffic on Euston Road onto Sydney Park Road. All other turning movements will be permitted at this intersection.

Mr Chapman said the $4.3 billion New M5 will duplicate the M5 corridor from the King Georges Road Interchange at Beverly Hills to a new interchange at St Peters via 9km twin tunnels.

“The St Peters Interchange is a major feature of the project which will provide connections to the New M5 Tunnels, the M4-M5 Link (opening in 2023), the future Sydney Gateway link to Sydney Airport and the local road network,” Mr Chapman said.

“Roads around the St Peters Interchange are being upgraded and new transport links are being built to reduce congestion and improve the local road network. Campbell Street, Campbell Road and Euston Road are all being upgraded.

“We thank residents and businesses in the area for their patience as we continue to complete this work.”

WestConnex is being delivered in four major stages, including the New M4 (now open), the New M5, opening in 2020 and the M4-M5 Link and Rozelle Interchange, opening in 2023.

When complete, WestConnex will provide drivers with a 33km, traffic-light free network. For the latest traffic information, visit www.livetraffic.com or for project information visit www.westconnex.com.au.
