Full closure of M4 for four nights

19 Sep 2016

Motorists are advised the M4 Motorway will be closed in both directions for four nights starting this Sunday while vital work is carried out to increase capacity on the M4. The motorway will be closed between Silverwater Road, Silverwater and Parramatta Road, Concord with traffic diverted onto Parramatta Road. Weather permitting, the full closures are scheduled for 11pm until 5am on Sunday 13, Monday 14, Tuesday 15 and Wednesday 16 March. Project Director Terry Chapman said the off-peak closures would enable work to be carried out with minimal disruption to motorists. “We are doing this work overnight when traffic volumes on the M4 are at their lowest,” Mr Chapman said. “During the total closures we will be removing an overhead gantry and establishing a construction corridor adjacent to the motorway in preparation for work to start on the M4 East. This will involve installing barriers and roadwork signs as well as adjusting line markings. “The full closures will also enable us to switch traffic onto new lanes constructed as part of the M4 Widening project, so work can then focus on upgrading the existing motorway lanes,” he said. Motorists are advised to plan their journey in advance and consider using alternate routes such as Victoria Road. The closures are part of a series of night closures of the motorway over coming weeks. In some cases closures will be partial, meaning one or two lanes will be affected. In other instances, an entire carriageway or both carriageways will be closed. Motorists are reminded to regularly check livetraffic.com for the latest details on scheduled night closures. Where needed, detours will also be advised on livetraffic.com and via variable message signs. Motorists are urged to drive with care. “WestConnex is really taking shape and this night-time work enables us to minimise impacts on motorists,” Mr Chapman said. “We thank motorists for their patience and understanding while WestConnex takes shape,” he said.
