Ramsay Street closure for M4 East works

25 Nov 2016

Motorists are advised of a temporary closure to part of Ramsay Street in Haberfield as work continues on the construction of the M4 East's Wattle Street Interchange. Ramsay Street will be closed between Wattle Street and Walker Avenue from 8pm on Friday 25 to 5am on Monday 28 November, weather permitting. Detours will be in place as follows: Motorists travelling east on Ramsay Street will be directed to use Wattle Street, Parramatta Road and Bland or Dalhousie streets. Motorists travelling west will be directed via Bland or Dalhousie streets to Parramatta Road or via Empire Street to Wattle Street. Bus services will be diverted via Wattle, Waratah and Empire streets with a temporary bus stop near the corner of Empire and Ramsay streets. Project Director Terry Chapman thanked motorists for their patience during the closure and said more disruptions will be necessary. “Ramsay Street is an access point to the M4 East tunnel and piling work is required before we start creating an entrance to the underground tunnels,” Mr Chapman said. “As well as this closure, we have planned a second weekend closure from Friday 9 to Monday 12 December to minimise the impact on road users and avoid the weekday peak travel times. “As work to build the 'cut and cover' tunnel entrance progresses, a 12-week closure is also planned for early next year. “While we understand this is an inconvenience to motorists, the closures will allow work to be carried out as quickly and safely as possible. “Road users are asked to plan their journeys in advance, check live traffic for the latest updates and allow extra travel time. “Electronic message signs will be in place along Ramsay Street and detours to help guide motorists to their destinations.” For the latest traffic information, visit www.livetraffic.com. Motorists can access the latest live traffic updates by downloading the Live Traffic App for iPhone, iPad and Android or call the Traffic Information Line on 132 701.
